Define a hazard area

The hazard area is the heart of a Common Operating Picture (COP+) session. Draw it and COP+ calculates every resident and piece of critical information inside, generates the Hazard Area Report, and activates the incident weather widget. You can redraw it as many times as the event demands; COP+ recalculates each time.

Before you start

You need the Define Hazard Area permission in the session. See Understand roles and permissions.

Draw a polygon

Open Define Hazard Area in the left-hand menu.
Click Area. The cursor changes to cross-hairs.
Click the map to place each corner of the polygon, then close the shape.

Draw a circle

Open Define Hazard Area and click Circle.
Drag a circle on the map.
Fine-tune the size in the EPZ Radius box that appears at the top left. Type a value in metres or use the up and down arrows. The box also shows the radius of any circle you redraw, so use it as your guide. If you double click it also goes from a square adjustment to a multi-point adjustment to allow more granule. control over the shape of the EPZ.

Generate from a pipeline or well

Open Define Hazard Area and click From Pipeline or From Well.
In the Define Hazard Area window, select the pipeline or well.
Enter the EPZ Radius (in meters).
Click Create Hazard Area.

After you draw

Wait for the bell icon in the top grey menu bar before redrawing. It signals the Hazard Area Report is ready, and recreating the area too soon interrupts the report.
Only the current report lives under Reporting. Earlier versions are retrieved from the audit log.
To notify residents inside the area, open the callout icon. See Understand callout.
