Rename or end a session

Session Initiators and Administrators can rename an active VEOC session at any time and end it permanently once the incident is resolved.

Rename or end a session

Renaming updates a session's name mid-incident; ending closes it for good. Both live in the left-hand menu of an active Virtual Emergency Operations Centre (VEOC) session, and both are restricted to the Session Initiator and Administrators.

Before you start

You need Initiator or Administrator access. Regular users and Observers see neither option. See Understand roles and permissions.

Rename a session

Rename when the incident outgrows its first name, for example when a test escalates or the location changes.

  1. In the left-hand menu, click Rename Session.

  2. Enter the new name. Same rule as at creation: a name every user will associate with the emergency or location.

  3. Confirm. A confirmation dialog verifies the change, and the session appears under its new name everywhere, including session browsing and reports.

End a session

End the session once the incident is resolved and the response is stood down.

  1. In the left-hand menu, click End Session.

  2. In the confirmation message, click End Session again to close it.

A closed session cannot be reopened. Be certain the response is officially complete before you end it. Everything the team posted stays on the record; you just cannot add to it.

On mobile: End Session is available from the session menu with the same confirmation.

After you end a session

The session moves to the closed list. Its Session Report, Attendance Report, and Usage Report stay available to Administrators and Initiators. See Access closed-session and usage reports.
