Get around the COP+ map
The Common Operating Picture (COP+) map has a handful of small controls that show up everywhere. Learn these once and every other tool makes sense.
Zoom and move
Zoom with the +/- buttons at the bottom left, or roll the mouse wheel: up to zoom in, down to zoom out.
Click Zoom to Incident Location in the top grey menu bar to centre the map on the current hazard area.
Read the cursor
The cursor tells you what COP+ expects next:
Pointer is the default.
Selector appears when you pick a tool from a left-hand menu list.
Picker (cross-hairs) appears when a tool is active and waiting for you to click the map.
Orange buttons
An orange circle with a white X closes that tool and removes it from the display.
Orange circles with white arrows collapse or expand a panel, such as the left menu, a legend, or the callout window.
The top grey menu bar
Weather and the Air Quality Index reading appear once a hazard area exists. See Check or set incident weather.
VEOC toggles you between your COP+ session and its VEOC session (VEOC licence required). See What VEOC does.
The bell icon lights up when a Hazard Area Report is ready to view.
The communication bubble icon lights up when a Legal Location Lookup result is ready or a roadblock email has been dispatched.
The callout icon opens resident callouts. See Understand callout.
Scale bar and compass
Both live at the top left of the map and toggle from the Toolbox:
Scale Bar is on by default.
Compass is off by default.
Each also has an orange button that switches it off from the map itself.
Page through results
Clicking a map point can return several pages of results. Use the forward and back arrows to step through them one at a time, or click the page count in the middle to open every result in a table and jump straight to the one you need. The table is faster when there are many pages.
Active Tools and the spinner
Toolbox > Active Tools opens a small window at the top left listing which tools are currently on. The default is none.
A spinner at the bottom left means COP+ is processing. Wait for it to finish before repeating an action.
