The Fire Locations tab lists every active fire in Alberta and British Columbia in one table: what it is, how big it is, where it is, and its current status. Click the magnifying glass on any row to jump straight to that fire on the map.
Before you start
Load the fire data first. See Load and refresh wildfire data. Until you click Show Fires and Zones, the table is empty.
Steps
In your session, go to Wildfire Management > Manage Notification Zones and click Show Fires and Zones.
Click the Fire Locations tab. The tab header shows the number of records loaded.
Find your fire. On smaller screens, click into the table and use your keyboard arrow keys to move across columns and rows.
In the Actions column, click the magnifying glass to jump to that fire's location on the map.
To get back to the table, click Manage Notification Zones in the bottom left menu under Wildfire Management.
What each column tells you
Column | Meaning |
Source | Which province the fire is burning in: Alberta or British Columbia. |
Fire Name | The government-assigned fire number. |
Status | Current fire status. Definitions below. |
Cause | Cause of the fire, if known (lightning, person). |
Hectares Burned | Current burned area. Matches the red boundary drawn on the map. |
Discovered | Date and time the fire was found. |
Latitude / Longitude | The fire's coordinates. |
Responsible Area | The area responsible for the fire. |
Actions | The magnifying glass jumps to the fire on the map. |
Status definitions
New: just discovered.
Out: extinguished.
Under Control: no longer spreading.
Being Held: not growing.
Unknown: no information yet.
Out of Control: not suppressed, still spreading.
Mutual aid: outside the Forest Protection Area; the lead agency is providing assistance.
Wildfire of Note: poses a potential threat to public safety.
