Two symbols carry all the fire information on the map: the red border shows how much land a fire covers, and the colour of the flame emblem shows its status. Read both and you know what you are looking at without opening the table.
Before you start
Load the fire data onto the map first. See Load and refresh wildfire data. For moving around the map itself, see COP+ map basics.
Fire boundaries
Each active fire is outlined with a red border. The border traces the land size of the fire and corresponds to the Hectares Burned value in the Fire Locations table.
The fire legend
Every fire location is marked with a coloured flame emblem. The colour maps directly to the Status column in the Fire Locations table:
Flame colour | Status | What it means |
Green | Under Control | Contained. No longer expected to spread. |
Orange | New | Just discovered. Severity not yet determined; under investigation. |
Yellow | Being Held | Not expanding and likely will not spread. |
Red | Out of Control | Not responding to containment. Still spreading. |
Blue | Mutual aid | Outside the Forest Protection Area. The lead agency is assisting with containment. |
