What Wildfire does

Wildfire monitors active fires around your assets around the clock and alerts your contact lists the moment a fire touches a notification zone you have drawn.

Written by Phil Wheaton

Wildfire watches active fires around your assets 24 hours a day and alerts your team the moment a fire's boundary touches a notification zone you have drawn on the map. You set it up once; the system monitors continuously in the background, whether or not anyone is signed in.

Wildfire lives inside the COP+ module. There is no separate tile on the H2CommandCentre dashboard. Open COP+, join a session, and everything Wildfire does sits under Wildfire Management in the menu.

Where the fire data comes from

Wildfire pulls live fire data for Alberta and British Columbia onto your COP+ map: active fire locations, government-assigned fire numbers, status, cause, hectares burned, and more. The map and data table refresh automatically every 30 minutes.

How it works

Setup is three steps, done by someone with initiator access:

  1. Create a session in COP+ and load the wildfire data with one button.

  2. Draw notification zones around each asset you want monitored.

From then on, if a fire's boundary touches a zone, the assigned contact list is alerted and directed to H2CommandCentre for detail. Zones must be created inside a session, but they are not tied to one; they persist across every session on that map until deleted.

What you can do from here

One rule before you set anything up

Zone sizes, contact lists, and messages come from your Emergency Response Plan, not from this guide. Any values in these articles demonstrate the software, nothing more. Always set up from your ERP.

For moving around the map itself (pan, zoom, search, layers), see COP+ map basics.
